The moment when I met death
This project explores the relationship between time and death through the use of stationary and moving clocks. Inspired by Heidegger's concept of "being-towards-death," it reflects on the significance of time for individual existence. The stationary clocks symbolise the stopped time of deceased loved ones, representing the end of their lives. The continuously moving clock in the centre symbolises "my" ongoing journey through time, highlighting the living's existence and remembrance of the departed.
The positioning and proximity of the clocks indicate the emotional closeness with each relative, while the red dot represents my grandfather, who passed away before I was born, highlighting the sense of loss for someone never met. By visualizing time, the piece emphasizes the uniqueness and transience of each life, echoing the universal human concern with mortality. It is not only an expression of personal experience but also a profound reflection on time, existence, and memory.
